For Joyce Savre, collage addresses the complexity of life. The many layers suggest a passage of time, sometimes years, sometimes moments. Though early stages of a painting might be more than random, the final layers that show are left for a reason. The images are all related and are connected in one's mind, like a poem.

Joyce attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated with a BS in 1976. The artist has participated in over 20 one person shows and several important group shows including the "Alexander the Great" invitational exhibit at the Rourke Art Museum in Minnesota. Her awards include "Best of Show", one first place award and three second place awards in shows throughout the U.S. She also took home a bronze award in the "Art/Life" California Watercolor Exhibit in San Francisco in 2007.

"Recycled images from past paintings and drawings, lines of a poem and passages of music reappear in a different setting, a new context. Just as with people, things are often more than they appear to be. The writing in the paintings is a symbol for my love of language".
