Dominique Caron approaches her canvases with color, vigor and joy suggesting a luminous art de-vivre. The artist in her mixed media paintings evocatively combines dream-state beauty with gritty archaeology. Articulate swaths of color and energetic lines reveal the elegance of primitive influences. Yet beneath the surface are layers of scrap cloth, old drawings and bits of calligraphy, possibly memories of an individual or fragments from a forgotten source. Dominique's artistic influences from the modern and the primitive portray the melange of contemporary society with its complex layers of memories and meanings.
Caron is a painter and mixed media artist living in San Francisco, CA. As a native of France she studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts where she received her MFA. Dominique's work has exhibited in galleries in Africa, Europe, Canada and the United States, and is held in major private and corporate collections.
My great pleasure is about letting my hand free on canvas and seeing my way through patterns and colors in a spontaneous burst of visual language. I believe that an artist, through the freedom of choice, can gather uplifting visual elements to find a path to joy.
